U.S. Route 1 - Fort Belvoir Road Improvements Project

The U.S> Route 1 - Fort Belvoir project consisted of the widening of a 3.68 mile segment of U.S. Route 1 (Richmond Highway) from Telegraph Road (Route 611) to Mount Vernon Highway (Route 235) in Fairfax County, VA. The Project consisted of widening from four through lanes to six through lanes, including the addition of left and right turn lanes at intersections and connecting roadways, and provision of a multi-use trail, pedestrian sidewalk, and on-road bicycle accommodations. The Project also included the construction of new bridges over the Accotink Creek. These improvements were necessary to improve traffic conditions on Route 1 and access to a new Army Hospital located on Fort Belvoir.
