Purple Line

The Purple Line corridor is located in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC, with the entire alignment inside the circumferential I-95/I-495 Capital Beltway. This project was developed to alleviate traffic in this corridor by providing a light rail option with 16 stations. It runs from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince Georges County. It will connect to Washington’s Metro system at various locations. The alignment is largely a surface alignment in exclusive or dedicated lanes with several short sections below grade where required because of the topography, and several elevated portions to avoid particularly congested roadways.
